Merit Fitness bicycles blend the very best in performance and comfort. But just in case your product seems to be lacking in these categories, we put together a list of the most common problems people have with home fitness equipment. Along with simple, step-by-step instructions on how to fix them.

Can't find the proper saddle/seat position. Console resets or has an erratic readout during a workout. Console does not show speed/RPM/distance during a workout. Console does not show full LCD display in every window. The seat on a upright bike is locked into place but wobbles from side to side. Seat slips backward (or the front of the machine moves forward) while pedaling. When riding the recumbent bike, it feels like the seat will tip to the side.

PROBLEM 1: Can't find the proper saddle/seat position.
Resolution #1: Correct Seat Adjustment
  • The saddle on an upright or the seat on a recumbent bike should be set so that there is a slight bend in your knee at the bottom of your pedal stroke (with the "ball" of your foot over the axle of the pedal).

Resolution #2: Saddle Height Adjustment
  • To set the saddle height on an upright bike, unscrew the seat pin counterclockwise approximately 2 revolutions.
  • Hold the saddle and pull the knob away from the machine. Position the seat post in the correct position.
  • Release the pin and turn the knob clockwise so that there is no "side to side" play in the seat post.

Resolution #1: Weak Batteries

  • If necessary, unplug bicycle from wall outlet. Wait 60 seconds.
  • Remove the four screws that hold the console on the mast.
  • Verify that the console's wiring connection points are securely connected and not loose.
CORRECTIVE ACTION: Secure connections. If unable to secure connections, contact Merit Fitness Tech Support at 877-50-Merit.
